Second hand dress steals the show at Met Gala 22

Another day, another £35,000-a-ticket Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The host, Vogue’s Anna Wintour, hand picked the list of VIPS who turned out for last night’s Gala to the world’s biggest fashion event of the year. The theme of last night’s Gala was ‘Gilded Glamour’ which refers to a period of time between 1870 to 1900.

While the stars largely kept to the theme with beautiful bustlers, and hoops, a few ignored the theme completely.

Kim Kardashian was one of those who ignored the dress code, and went on to steal the headlines by wearing what was essentially a second hand dress…but not any old second hand dress. Kim’s iconic dress was originally worn by Marilyn Monroe during the historic moment in 1962 when she sang ‘Happy Birthday Mr President’ to John F Kennedy. Kim’s hair was dyed blonde and tied back in a bun to match the golden shimmering glittery dress.

Rumour has it that Kim was so determined to wear the vintage dress which couldn’t be altered to fit that she managed to lose around 16 lbs so she could fit into the body con dress.  Ms Monroe was rumoured to have been originally sewn into the dress for the perfect fit. The dress was sold for $4.8 million at Auction in 2016, for Ripley’s Believe It Or Not Museum.
